As a student that struggled in school, I choose the career path of education so that I could help those students like me that struggled with traditional instruction. Upon entering the field, I quickly realized that I was not unique in my struggles and the majority of students struggle learning in some form or fashion. This realization became the catalyst for me to continue to advance my education so that I could help a greater number of students and ultimately lead teachers to help those students as well. I came to Winthrop after working for the South Carolina Department of Education for over ten years in the area of human capital management. Prior to that, I taught at the elementary and middle school levels and served as an assistant principal and principal at both levels as well. I am originally from upstate New York. I spend my free time either playing or coaching lacrosse and I am married with two children.
