ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — Winthrop University President Dan Mahony will present the first State of the University address on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 11 a.m. in Byrnes Auditorium.
During the address, Mahony will unveil the university's new strategic plan, entitled "The Winthrop Plan: A Strategy to Become a National Model for a Student-Centered
University Experience."
The strategic planning process began in fall 2015. Mahony met with members of each department and office to gather feedback that would start to shape the planning process. The plan development
was led by a strategic planning committee comprised of faculty, staff and students,
with the support of seven working groups which focused on key areas of priority. Their
work ultimately provided the basis for the new strategic plan that Mahony will debut.
"I'm appreciative of the hard work from so many that went into helping carefully craft
this plan that will take Winthrop through 2025," said Mahony. "Metrics are a key component to the plan so that we can consistently
gauge our progress and be held accountable. We will report on these metrics each year so that we are as transparent as possible and so that everyone can be aware of the work ahead of us."
During his presentation, Mahony will outline five strategic plan goals, provide metrics that will show the expectations of progress and reveal specific
initiatives that will help the university reach those goals.
The State of the University address is open to the public and is an approved cultural event for Winthrop students. For those who cannot attend, a video of the full presentation will be available at www.winthrop.edu/president within a few days of the event.
