ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Winthrop University tennis player Diego Quiroz ’19 has been awarded a NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship so he will remain at the university to earn a Master of Business Administration degree
with a concentration on international business.
Quiroz is one of 21 male athletes nationwide to receive the $10,000 scholarship, which is awarded to student-athletes who are nominated by their institutions’ faculty athletic representative for excelling both academically and athletically.
"Winning the NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship means a lot. I am so happy that all my hard work on and off the court paid off," said Quiroz, who is from Guayaquil, Ecuador. "I can't wait to start my MBA program and go back to Rock Hill."
Quiroz was team captain on the 2018-19 men's tennis team and was named First Team All-Conference in singles. He finished his senior year with a 14-6 singles record. Quiroz finished his career at Winthrop as one of only 13 players in Big South men's tennis history to be a four-time All-Conference honoree.
In addition to his graduate studies, Quiroz will assist the women's tennis team as a graduate assistant coach.
He is the second Winthrop tennis player to earn a postgraduate degree this year. Megan Kauffman ’19 will attend the University of Florida to seek a master’s degree in applied physiology and kinesiology with a concentration in human performance.
