ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — Tiago Ruffoni '09, head tennis pro at the Rock Hill Tennis Center, has been named the 2015 U.S. Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) Southern Male Player.
Ruffoni will receive the award at the USPTA Southern Convention on May 14 at The Standard Club in Johns Creek, Georgia. The Porto Alegre, Brazil,
native capped the annual award by winning the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA) National Men's 35 and 30 Doubles Championships in November and December 2015.
Ruffoni teamed with longtime partner Clayton Almeida '06, '09 to win both titles. Ruffoni also was a finalist in the USTA National 30 Mixed Doubles. He received two gold tennis
balls for winning each men's division while taking home a USTA silver ball for being
a finalist in mixed doubles. All three national events were held at the prestigious Midtown Club in Weston, Florida.
Kim Ozmon, director of the Rock Hill Tennis Center, said that the center was "very
proud" of Ruffoni for his impressive accomplishments.
"We feel so fortunate to have Tiago here at the Rock Hill Tennis Center, both as a
national champion and as an exceptional instructor," said Ozmon.
Ruffoni earned his M.B.A. at Winthrop. He lives in Charlotte with his wife, Krista, and their
son.
