Winthrop Launches Search for Dean of College of Visual and Performing Arts

ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Winthrop University seeks applications for the position of dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts.

Debra Boyd, the university's provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, said leading a 12-member search committee will be Gloria Jones, dean of University College.

Boyd said the university is looking for a dean who will demonstrate strategic and visionary leadership, outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, entrepreneurial drive, and a commitment to the mission of the College of Visual and Performing Arts and to Winthrop.
  
"Our next dean will need to have a demonstrated commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, including professional development of students and scholarly pursuits of faculty members," said Boyd, who will oversee the dean.

Collaborative engagement in the arts community will be a critical activity as well.

The College of Visual and Performing Arts is the academic home to more than 650 undergraduate students majoring in 12 areas and more than 50 graduate students in its six masters programs and one post-baccalaureate certificate program. The college has a total of 105 faculty members, of whom 52 are full time and 53 are part-time lecturers who are practicing professionals from the surrounding metropolitan area.

Winthrop's programs of dance, fine arts, interior design, music and theatre are nationally accredited. In addition, Winthrop's arts education programs (art, music, theatre and dance) are accredited through the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.
