Welcome to Winthrop University! As your Interim Dean of Students, it is my privilege to help students with challenges they may experience during your time on campus and to cheer you on for all your successes. My role is to support students in all matters outside of the classroom. The Dean of Students Office also works closed with several offices and services that will impact your experience at Winthrop, including Residence Life, Office of Accessibility, and New Student & Family Programs. The Dean of Students Offices wants to help ensure that your Winthrop experience is a great one, so I hope you will come see us if there are ever any concerns.
The team within the Dean of Students Office supports students who are experiencing crisis or other difficult challenges. It is our goal to work closely with students to help them advocate for themselves, to help students navigate their choices to make the best decisions, and to serve as a liaison with faculty and staff across campus in helping students succeed. We often help students figure out where to go and what resources are available for them when they are hitting roadblocks on their road to graduation. Our office is also responsible for ensuring that all students are held accountable to our university’s Code of Conduct (pdf - 404 KB) to help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all Winthrop Eagles! We also are the main point of contact for our commuter student population and provide general resources to all students through services like the Food Shelf, Emergency Fund, and Absence Notification process.
We want your Winthrop experience to be outstanding. I encourage you to explore all the opportunities to become an engaged student and to embrace all the ways in which you can stretch your thinking, meet new people, and explore new ideas. Attend cultural events that push you outside your comfort zone and engage in conversations about life with your peers. We are here to support you on your college journey! We hope you will get involved, connect with peers, faculty, and staff, and grow and learn in this amazing environment.
