Winthrop offers four undergraduate and three graduate music degree programs, including a nonperformance-based program: the Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with a Concentration in Music Technology. Courses cover fundamentals of music technology, audio recording/post-production, synthesis/signal processing, and audio for visual media.

Prepare for a rewarding career in Music Education. In addition to a core of applied and theoretical music courses, students will take a professional education sequence through the College of Education to prepare for teacher certification. There are two concentrations to choose from: choral certification and instrumental certification.
Hone your craft with the Bachelor of Music in Music Performance with a concentration in performance. The curriculum is designed to immerse students in the world of music with courses ranging from music theory and aural skills to private lessons in their major instrument.
It is the purpose of the Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Music to provide students with a general music education within a liberal arts setting. Students will acquire and expand their knowledge of musicianship and performance which serve to develop their creative and musical potentials.
Prepare for an exciting career in the music industry by studying music technology, recording and audio production, sound and visual media, music business and entrepeneurship, and more.
It is the purpose of the Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Music and a concentration in Commercial Music to provide students with professional training in jazz and popular music styles with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Nearly 95 percent of the full-time music faculty hold the highest degree possible in their teaching specialty and perform professionally outside of the university and across the region.
Our music programs are accredited nationally by the National Association of Schools of Music (since 1940), the National Council on Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
Winthrop has a 100 percent placement rate for Music Education graduates.
