Dr. Bloomquist is an Associate Professor, faculty advisor to the Child and Youth Well-being minor, and Title IV-E Child Welfare Scholars Program Coordinator for the Department of Social Work at Winthrop University. She holds an LMSW and is a foster parent. Prior to joining the Winthrop faculty, Dr. Bloomquist earned a BSW, MSW, and PhD from the Indiana University School of Social Work. She has more than a decade of social work practice experience, including 10 years in child welfare practice. Dr. Bloomquist’s areas of scholarship include adoption and foster care, Title IV-E programming, attitudes on poverty and social class, and self-care and professional well-being. Dr. Bloomquist teaches at the BSW and MSW levels and specializes in practice, research and writing, leadership, and child/family-specific courses. She was presented the Winthrop University Thompson Scholar Award in 2024 for her proposal to develop dedicated programing for current and prospective students with lived child welfare experience. Dr. Bloomquist was also awarded the Jane LaRoche Award for Excellence in Graduate Instruction in 2024.
