WHEREAS, presidents with a significant tenure at the helm of Winthrop University have
had buildings named after them; and
WHEREAS, Anthony J. DiGiorgio is the longest-serving president since the university's
founder, David Bancroft Johnson; and
WHEREAS, Winthrop University has named a number of significant campus facilities after
individuals who have significantly advanced the mission of the institution; and
WHEREAS, Gale N. DiGiorgio has been a significant partner in the development of the
campus community and its relationship with the Rock Hill community; and
WHEREAS, during President DiGiorgio's tenure, the University has amassed an impressive
list of awards, accomplishments and third-party validations directly attributable
to his leadership and vision; and
WHEREAS, with both President and Mrs. DiGiorgio having an extensive background in
higher education as well as in student life, the Campus Center, as a place where everyone
on campus will come together in academic and social pursuits, will be an embodiment
to the DiGiorgios' commitment to the creation of an engaged community; and
WHEREAS, it is right, salutary and proper for the Board of Trustees to name the Campus
Center at the outset of its life as a facility and to name the facility after the
DiGiorgios at this time to honor the DiGiorgios for their many contributions to Winthrop
and to unite the current campus community with generations to come;
THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that the Winthrop Campus Center shall forthwith be known
as the Anthony J. and Gale N. DiGiorgio Campus Center.
