WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees and the Division of Academic Affairs of Winthrop University
wish to honor the legacy of leadership created by President Anthony J. DiGiorgio;
and
WHEREAS, the Board of Trustees and the Division of Academic Affairs recognize the
need to develop and support leadership talent among Winthrop faculty, students, and
staff; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the DiGiorgio Forum on Leadership will be to help individuals
become effective and ethical leaders by providing professional development workshops,
one-on-one mentoring, and other programming designed to enhance leadership skills;
and
WHEREAS, the purpose of this forum will be to bring together an array of leadership-related
initiatives at the university and connect more broadly with other leadership initiatives
within the multiple, global communities in which our students, faculty, and staff
live and work; and
WHEREAS, by investing in leadership development through this forum, Winthrop University
prepares students, faculty, and staff to realize their capabilities, to become change
agents who improve and sustain the institutions in which they work, and to continue
the university's mission as a leader in higher education; and
WHEREAS, it is right and proper for the Board of Trustees to support the creation
of such a forum as a means to advance the mission and goals of the institution and
to name the Forum on Leadership after Anthony J. DiGiorgio to honor his many contributions
as an educational and community leader;
THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that the Winthrop University Board of Trustees charges
the Division of Academic Affairs to create the DiGiorgio Forum on Leadership to serve
as a focal point and gathering place for leadership development at Winthrop University
and beyond.
