WHEREAS, Winthrop University with grateful appreciation, does hereby acknowledge,
commend, and honor the twelve years of distinguished service of Dr. Susan Rex as a
member of the Winthrop University Board of Trustees; and
WHEREAS, she has freely given of her time and talents to strengthen the essential
operations of the University, to further its progress toward reaching its institutional
goals and to fulfill its educational mission which has led to the increase of the
quality of academic programs and the diversity of the student body; and
WHEREAS, her participation on the Board on a variety of committees including Compensation,
Institutional Advancement and Development, as well as serving as the chair of the
Committee on Academic Quality has been characterized by her dedication to excellence
and her high level of commitment to education will long be evident in the achievements
of the University; and
WHEREAS, she employed her community spirit and resolute commitment to civic and educational
advancement and has worked to ensure that Winthrop University continues its tradition
of outstanding service to its students, the Rock Hill community and the State of South
Carolina; and
WHEREAS, her legacy as an integral, impactful, and insightful faculty member of twenty-three
years in the Winthrop University College of Education has empowered countless teachers
to encourage the intellectual growth of future generations; and
WHEREAS, her wide-ranging and thorough commitment to Winthrop University will continue
for many years to come by her contributions to the James and Susan Rex Institute for
Educational Renewal and Partnership, whose mission is to serve, facilitate, and support
faculty and unit initiatives that involve internal and external collaboration, partnership,
and outreach to ensure cohesive, quality programs;
THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that the Winthrop University Board of Trustees and President
Mahony, on behalf of the students, faculty and staff at Winthrop University, and the
extended public higher education community, gratefully acknowledge the vigorous advocacy
and heartfelt concern that Dr. Susan Rex has demonstrated on behalf of higher education
in general and Winthrop in particular, and in commending her for outstanding meritorious
service, do wish her every success and happiness in all her future endeavors.
