RESOLUTION TO HONOR MR. JOHN PAUL "J.P." MCKEE FOR MERITORIOUS SERVICE TO WINTHROP
UNIVERSITY
WHEREAS, John Paul "J.P." McKee served Winthrop University for an exceptional forty-one
years with thirty of those years as Vice President for Finance and Business, Winthrop
University with grateful appreciation does hereby acknowledge, commend and honor J.P.
McKee as one of the longest serving Vice Presidents in Winthrop history; and
WHEREAS, J.P.'s dedicated leadership of the Finance and Business division through
prosperous and challenging times and his unwavering stewardship of public funds have
had a positive, long-term impact on the University. He embodied calm with his gentle
and friendly manner, as well as financial stability with his deliberate and conservative
fiscal oversight; and
WHEREAS, through restructuring of the finance units he enhanced cooperation and strengthened
reporting and analysis capabilities while his sharp insight into interest rate changes
resulted in timely refinancing of debt throughout the years, thus lowering debt service
payments thereby generating significant cost savings for the University; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure at Winthrop J.P. managed more than $200 million in facility
construction and improvements including the building of eleven new facilities, nineteen
building renovations, modernization of the chilled water and electrical distribution
systems, implementation of computing networks and systems, as well as numerous safety,
security, and energy saving measures; and
WHEREAS, J.P. has been emblematic of the Winthrop spirit through his unwavering devotion
to the University, having been known across campus for his omnipresence and willingness,
day or night, to place the needs of Winthrop before his own;
THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED that the Winthrop University Board of Trustees and President
Dan Mahony, on behalf of the students, faculty and staff at Winthrop University, do
hereby convey their deep respect and profound gratitude to Mr. J.P. McKee, and do
commend him for his loyalty and service to Winthrop University.
