What makes Winthrop special to you?
I grew up in the Rock Hill area and Winthrop has always held a special place in my heart. I have a picture as a toddler in front of the Tillman fountain. I recreated that picture my senior year. It was truly a full circle moment and embodied what the community and legacy is about here at Winthrop. Winthrop is home for me and so many current students, alumni, faculty and staff.
What do you love about Winthrop?
As I mentioned, the feeling of community is huge on our campus. I love to see students walking on Scholar’s Walk on their way to class and stopping to talk to friends or a professor. It is great to see everyone on Campus Green, sitting out on blankets and working on homework or eating lunch with their friends. Some of my closest friends are people I met when I was on campus.
What is your favorite local restaurant in Rock Hill?
We have so many delicious places to eat in Rock Hill, so I have several favorites. I love Tequila’s! They have the best chicken soup. My next favorite is Casa Tequila, they have the best tortas! And in terms of a restaurant that is within walking distance to campus, Groucho’s has to be my number one, they have the best sweet tea.
What is your favorite event to attend Rock Hill or local area?
Being so close to Charlotte is the best! Going to Panther football games at Bank of America Stadium in Uptown is so much fun. We recently acquired a professional soccer team, so I am looking forward to making my way to a Charlotte FC game soon as well.
