Dr. Fields teaches in the Department of Biology at Winthrop. He earned his Ph.D. in
integrative biology from the University of South Carolina. Fields teaches general
biology courses for non-science majors, as well as courses on the natural history
of South Carolina and a special topics course on mammals.
In addition to teaching at Winthrop since 1997, Fields has worked as a museum educator
and curator since 1986. He is currently the curator of natural history for the Culture
and Heritage Museums of York County.
Fields has published several papers on natural history and paleontology in refereed
journals such as Southeastern Naturalist, Transactions of the American Philosophical Society, and Acta Paleontologica. He also writes a monthly nature column for YC (York County) Magazine.
