As an all-encompassing musician, Dr. Cory J. High has an energetic career as a performer, educator, and recording specialist. He currently serves as Director of Percussion Studies at both Winthrop University and Newberry College. Before joining the faculty of Winthrop, he held teaching positions with multiple HBCU institutions in South Carolina.
Dr. High’s performance accomplishments include being regularly featured as a percussion soloist throughout the Southeastern United States, premiering a number of ensemble compositions, and regularly performing with the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra. He is also a current member of The Wildlight Collective, a chamber ensemble focused on showcasing modern percussion works and underrepresented composers.
Cory co-founded HighSeas Media in 2021, which aims to provide a greater advocacy for academic music. Since its creation, HighSeas Media has worked with the University of South Carolina Percussion Ensemble, Nancy Zeltsman, Duo Plygas, the Allen University Percussion Ensemble, as well as a multitude of chamber ensembles.
