Experience is the #1 thing that employers seek in qualified candidates. “Experiential education” (internships, significant volunteer experience, etc.) provides a glimpse into the world of work, allowing you to apply what you have learned in class and enabling you to build relationships with current professionals in a field of interest. Winthrop University and the University Career Center provide several avenues for you to pursue experiential education opportunities. Depending upon your major and the industry you are interested in working in you may select to pursue internships, practicum experiences, clinical or student teaching.
Most degree options in the College of Visual & Performing Arts offer the opportunity to complete an internship for academic credit toward the major. In order to get academic credit for an internship, students must meet certain pre-requisite requirements and complete a number of written assignments. Interested students should contact their advisor, Department Chair, or the Center for Career Development and Internships.
