Classically trained oboist Teil Taliesin embraces new technologies integrating looping pedals and effects in her performances and compositions. She is an active musician and freelancer, performing with numerous local orchestras such as the Charlotte Symphony, Principal of the Rock Hill Symphony, third/English horn of the Western Piedmont Symphony, and in various chamber ensembles. In 2023 she was appointed section member of the Charlotte Symphony. In 2018 she performed Oboe and English horn with Disney's Broadway production tour of Aladdin in Columbus, Ohio. Also in 2018, she won first place at the Columbus Invitational Arts Competition All-Star Event representing Women in Music Columbus in a collaboration with Creative Women of Color performing art songs by African-American women composers she reimagined for Oboe and Looping Pedal. An international performer, Teil has previously performed at the International Double Reed Society summer conference, the International Classical Guitar Festival summer conference, the International Clarinet Association summer conference, Charlotte New Music Festival, the International Alliance of Women in Music Conference, the Jungfrau Music Festival, and in collaboration with ensembles in Costa Rica.
She is the co-Founder and Executive Director of Phoenix Down RPG, an ensemble originally rooted in the classical repertoire of Trio d'Anches that colors outside the lines and makes music differently with the creation of immersive performance events intregrating music and gaming components including Name That Tune (video game music with interactive trivia), Melody & Mayhem (video game tournament with interactive music performance), and Campfire Tales (tabletop gaming featuring local creatives as players paired with improvisatory music). She is also the co-founder and Artistic Director of Burnt Reeds, a reed quintet ensemble committed to highlighting and performing works by composers featuring different music styles and backgrounds. She is also the Founder and co-Director of reedsACT: A Common Thread which was formed in 2020 aiming to connect the double reed community online and pair students that needed a free lesson with volunteer instructors.
She previoulsy served as the Marketing, Branding, and Social Media Board Chair for the International Alliance of Women in Music and the Vice President. She is a Certified Teaching Artist through Art Beyond, and has taught a private studio for over a decade. Previous summer festivals she has participated in include Fresh Inc Festival, Brevard, Marrowstone, and Imani Winds Chamber Music Festival at Juilliard. Teil Taliesin received her Master's at the Cleveland Institute of Music studying with Jeffrey Rathbun and her Undegraduate at the University of Louisville studying with Jennifer Potochnic. During her studies she was named a Presser Scholar, a Civic Engagement Scholar, a Yocum Scholar for community service, and was the first music major Honors Scholar from the University of Louisville.
