The newly-established Honors College at Winthrop focuses on preparing motivated students to be leaders in their communities. It is a great way for students to strengthen their college education with more opportunities to explore advanced topics and work with passionate faculty in smaller classroom settings. Students in this program will participate in more rigorous coursework, engage in leadership courses and training, complete a service-learning project and work closely with a faculty mentor to complete a culminating experience.
Honors College students benefit from priority course registration, smaller class sizes, focused academic advising, undergraduate research or internship opportunities in their first year, and apartment-style housing opportunities starting in their first year. Each Honors student will also have the opportunity to be mentored by community and business leaders in their field!
Freshman admission into the Honors College is based upon the applicant’s high school GPA and essay. All admitted freshmen with a South Carolina high school GPA of 4.25 (3.5 for out of state applicants) or above will be invited to apply for Honors College admission. Students can also apply for the program after enrolling at Winthrop and maintaining a 3.3 GPA in their cumulative college coursework.
Applying to be part of the Honors College at Winthrop is easy!
You can choose to apply for enrollment in the Honors College when completing the admissions application or anytime after you've been accepted for admission.
