International student success at Winthrop University begins with International Student Orientation. Orientation is designed to help you:
Studies show the benefits of participating in orientation programs. Faculty members and advisers see a marked difference in the preparedness and success of students who have participated in orientation.
Orientation is mandatory for all new international students enrolling at Winthrop University. The International Center plans and organizes International Orientation. The Office of New Student and Family Programs is responsible for Orientation of all Winthrop undergraduate students, U.S. and international.
International Student Orientation is held each January and August the week before classes begin. The International Center will provide information on International Orientation in your admission packet.
Winthrop University and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security require that international students new to Winthrop participate in Orientation prior to enrolling in classes. Therefore, if you do not attend Orientation, there will be a registration hold placed on your student account and you will not be able to register for classes.
The charge for Orientation is $100. This charge will be added to your student account. If you do not attend Winthrop's Orientation, you are still responsible for payment of the $100 Orientation fee. This fee will not be removed for non-attendance.
International students are not required to register for Orientation. The International Center will register you for the August Orientation session and the $100 charge for Orientation will be added to your student account.
If you have any questions about Orientation please contact the International Center. Thank you!
