ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – At Winthrop University, research can take many forms:
A bubbling Bunsen burner next to a sample of chemicals in Dalton Hall.
A perfectly executed pirouette on the Johnson stage.
An afternoon traversing the Winthrop Wetlands.
A splash of paint in the studios of McLaurin Hall.
Winthrop students, faculty/staff, alumni and the community can come together and support the display of this amazing research at the annual Showcase of Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors (SOURCE), scheduled for Friday, April 14, on campus. Hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research, SOURCE includes work from all five academic colleges on campus. SOURCE will take place on the same day as the inauguration of Winthrop’s 12th president, Edward A. Serna ’02.
Students will proudly present their research and creative projects campus-wide in the form of performances, oral and poster presentations, workshops and gallery exhibitions. Check the SOURCE website for a more detailed schedule closer to the event date.
SOURCE is a remarkable experience, noted Nick Grossoehme, professor of chemistry and director of undergraduate research.
“It creates an opportunity for students to engage with their peers and professors on a level unmatched by any other single event on campus,” he continued. “It brings together students of all disciplines and allows them to see the broad scope of research culture, the finer details of disciplinary research methods and analysis strategies, and clearly demonstrates the similarities and differences in research and intellectual cultures across all disciplines. Attending and engaging in an interdisciplinary research conference and as broad in scope as SOURCE is a cultural experience that is hard to match.”
