ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Winthrop University’s College of Business Administration has renamed its annual golf tournament the Dr. Keith Robbins Golf Tournament in honor of Robbins’ 25 years of steady leadership within the college. Department faculty also created a scholarship in his and his wife’s name, Chrissie Robbins.

Robbins, who will retire this year as chair of the Department of Management and Marketing, was instrumental in the creation and planning of the golf tournament, with proceeds going to student scholarships and professional development.

Organizers surprised Robbins at the March 27 tournament by announcing that the tournament moving forward would be renamed for him and that a scholarship had been created in honor of he and his wife.

“It’s amazing how the community has supported this tournament,” Robbins said, adding that many of this year’s sponsors also sponsored last year’s tournament. “The staff at the Rock Hill Country Club were great hosts and we’ve already submitted our request for a spot on their calendar for next year.

“The event provides a great learning and networking opportunity for our students and allows them to practice the professional development skills that we work so hard to instill in our College of Business Administration programming. It was a great day.”

An estimated $30,000 was raised at the 2023 event, which was held on March 27 at the Rock Hill Country Club. After opening remarks from Winthrop President Edward Serna, four-person teams – made up of Winthrop alumni, students, business leaders, faculty and community/business partnerships – enjoyed a beautiful day of golfing.

“Even though this is only our second year running the golf tournament for the college, we increased the number of players by 25 percent and doubled the amount of donations going toward student scholarships,” noted Cara Peters, professor of marketing. “So many alumni and business supporters generously donated to support our students. We were blown away by the support from the business community and look forward to next year’s tournament!”
