ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — Winthrop University will hold two undergraduate Commencement ceremonies and a separate graduate Commencement ceremony in May to make room for all who want to attend.

Commencement Committee Chair Tim Drueke said the number of May undergraduates and the number of family and friends who attend has increased in size over the years and was at capacity at the Winthrop Coliseum, which can hold 6,000+ people.

"Commencement is an exciting time for the Winthrop community and our graduates," Drueke said. "Limiting attendance by requiring tickets was not a family-friendly option."

There will now be a morning ceremony at 10 a.m. May 7 for the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Visual and Performing Arts. There will be an afternoon ceremony at 3 p.m. for the College of Business Administration and the Richard W. Riley College of Education. Additional details about these ceremonies will be forthcoming, said Provost Debra Boyd.

A separate graduate Commencement ceremony will be held on the evening of May 5 at the Winthrop Coliseum.
