ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA Winthrop University will welcome top disc golfers from around the world to compete Oct. 3-6 for the U.S. Disc Golf Championship (USDGC).
This is the event's 20th anniversary, and Winthrop's Disc Golf Course has been the site of the U.S. Championship since the event's inception in 1999.
The players to watch this year at the Winthrop Recreational Complex are:
Nate Sexton, Corvallis, Oregon — 2017 U.S. Champion
Paul McBeth, Huntington Beach, California — 4-time World Champion, 2015 U.S. Champion
Ricky Wysocki, Fort Mill, South Carolina — 2017 World Champion
Live video returns to Winthrop Gold for 2018 for the final two rounds of the event. Crews from
Fulcrum Media will be filming holes 1, 5, 17 and the tee shot of hole 18, as well
as parts of other holes. Most of their attention will be focused on hole 17, making
that nerve-racking tee shot a little more intense.
Watching from the elevated hole 17 broadcast booth will be commentators Jamie Thomas (of Spin TV) and 2009 World Champion Avery Jenkins, who will lead the live coverage and will be joined by a host of guests including
5-time U.S. Champion Ken Climo. Look for video to be posted at the Innova website and Facebook page.

The event's success wouldn't be possible without the numerous volunteers who travel
from around the country to help put on the championship, said Jonathan Poole, event director.
As part of the celebration of the tournament's history, organizers put together a
list of 20 memorable moments over the last 20 years. Take a walk down memory lane

Poole said Winthrop's course continues to be recognized as one of the best in the
country. Although the course has seen minor changes each year, he said the course
presents a combination of narrow fairways, lots of out-of-bounds area, elevated baskets
and plenty of water features. Known to be physically, emotionally and mentally challenging,
the Winthrop course allows for creativity in shot making and a unique focus on shot
placement, rather than on pure distance alone.

Single day tickets are priced at $10 and a VIP ticket for the four days is $25. Winthrop
students, veterans and those under 12 can get in free. A free tournament disc will
be given to the first 500 single day ticket holders.
