ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Devon Ralston, assistant professor of English and Writing Center director at Winthrop University,
represented the university's chapter of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phithe nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplinesat
the 45th Biennial Convention August 1-4 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Ralston currently serves as president of the Winthrop chapter of Phi Kappa Phi and attended
the convention as the chapter's voting delegate.
The convention brought together more than 200 chapter delegates. The three-day event
featured a keynote address from Julie Shumacher, professor of English and creative writing at the University of Minnesota and author
of "Dear Committee Members," which won the Thurber Prize for American Humor.
Other highlights included presentations by Phi Kappa Phi award winners, regional meetings,
chapter development training and elections for the 2018-19 regional vice presidents,
board of directors as well as bylaw revisions.
Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine, Phi Kappa Phi is a multi-disciplinary
society with chapters on 350 select colleges and universities in North America and
the Philippines.
