ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — The Winthrop University Board of Trustees approved seven retiring faculty members for emeritus status and heard about the latest faculty promotions at its June 25 board meeting.
The seven retiring faculty members have contributed a combined total of 222 years of service, according to Provost Adrienne McCormick.
They are: Patricia I. Ballard, assistant professor and cataloging/metadata librarian; Marsha Bollinger, chair of interdisciplinary studies and professor of geology; Debra Boyd, provost emeritus and associate professor of English; Donald Friedman, professor of German; Peter Judge, chair of philosophy and religious studies as well as professor of religious studies; Jonathan Marx, professor of sociology; and Christopher Van Aller, professor of political science.
The Board of Trustees also acknowledged tenure and promotion decisions taking effect in the fall as presented by the Division of Academic Affairs.
The 13 faculty members granted tenure are: in the College of Arts and Sciences, Kori Bloomquist, social work; Margaret Gillikin, social studies education; Arran Hamm, mathematics; Allan Nail, English; and Devon Ralston, English; in the College of Business Administration, Anna Romanova, computer science; and Michael Whitney, digital information design; in the Richard W. Riley College of Education, Jason Chung, sport management; Erin Hamel, early childhood education; and Joy Stapleton, elementary education; and in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, Wanda Ebright, dance; Justin Isenhour, music; and Marvin McAllister, theatre.
There were 22 faculty members promoted to professor or associate professor.
Promoted to the rank of professor are: in the College of Arts and Sciences, Rick Chacon, anthropology; Amanda Hiner, English; Wanda Koszewski, human nutrition; Wendy Sellers, social work; and Scott Werts, geology; in the College of Business Administration, Malayka Klimchak, human resource management; in the Richard W. Riley College of Education, Lisa Harris, educational technology; and Tenisha Powell, early childhood education; and in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, Jeff Bellantoni, design; Wanda Ebright, dance; and Karen Oremus, fine arts.
Promoted to the rank of associate professor from assistant professor are: in the College of Arts and Science, Kori Bloomquist, social work; Margaret Gillikin, social studies education; both Duha Hamed and Arran Hamm, mathematics; Hye-Sung Kim, political science; Devon Ralston, English; and Brent Woodfill, anthropology; in the College of Business Administration, Danko Tarabar, economics; in the Richard W. Riley College of Education, Jason Chung, sport management; and Erin Hamel, early childhood education; and in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, Matt Ferrell, theatre.
