Four finalists for Winthrop University's provost position will interview on campus the week of Nov. 13.
The finalists are:
*Sebastian van Delden, dean of the School of Sciences, Mathematics, and Engineering; interim chair of engineering at College of Charleston
*Laura Reynolds, provost and vice president of academic affairs at Missouri Western State University
*Eric Brown, professor of English and former provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University of Maine Farmington
*Mark Biermann, higher education consultant; former president of Blackburn College
Dates and times for the candidates' visits are available here.
Joseph Miller, vice president for enrollment management and marketing, and Shelia Higgs Burkhalter, vice president for student affairs, co-chaired the seven-member search committee.
The university conducted a national search with search firm Myers McRae to find a good slate of candidates who could serve as the university’s chief academic officer and guide the academic direction of Winthrop. “We feel confident that these finalists will yield the right person who will work collaboratively across all academic and administrative support units,” said Miller. “As the university prepares to launch its new strategic plan early next year, we feel that the right candidate will help support the university’s new mission, vision and values, as well as help introduce new academic program offerings that come out of the strategic planning process,” added Burkhalter.
Members of campus and local communities are encouraged to attend each candidate's public presentation as well as the meet and greet session. Feedback on each candidate is welcomed.
