Set for Friday, April 20, this year's SOURCE will feature more than 250 students
and projects, representing at least 30 departments and programs from all five colleges. SOURCE celebrates and encourages all facets of undergraduate research, which is considered
a "high-impact practice" as identified by the American Association of Colleges and
Universities. 
ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA The Fourth Annual Showcase of Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors (SOURCE) at Winthrop University promises to be the largest and most robust one yet. Just take
a look at some of the abstract titles:
*Women's Empowerment Through Microfinancing;
*The Influence of Daily Leisure Activities on Stress and Work-Family Balance;
*The Effect of the Peruvian Plant Extract, Croton lechleri (Dragon's Blood), on PC3
Prostate Tumor Cell Apoptosis;
*The Continuing International Relations and Foreign Policy Implications From the Spanish
American War;
*Food and Consumption in Francophone Literature.
Set for Friday, April 20, this year's SOURCE will feature more than 250 students and
projects, representing at least 30 academic departments and programs from all five
colleges, said Robin Lammi, director of the Office of Undergraduate Research. Presentations span the natural, physical and social sciences, the arts and humanities,
business and education. There will also be live performances in DIGs and on the Barnes
Recital Hall stage. The Winthrop Galleries' Undergraduate Juried Exhibition is also highlighted at SOURCE, with 33 student pieces selected for inclusion by an
external juror.
Lammi attributes the significant expansion of SOURCE to the positive reputation undergraduate
research has developed in the campus community as well as the continued encouragement
of faculty and staff, who serve as mentors for students' projects.
"These mentors are telling students, ˜Your research is important, and you're doing
good work here; your fellow students and campus community want to hear it,'" she said.
"The students across campus do such impressive work. It's so exciting to see all of
that in one place. Look at what we, as a Winthrop community, have helped these students
to accomplish. Just think of what we've prepared them to do after graduation."
