ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – History Professor Jason Silverman is in demand this spring for several events dealing with his book on Abraham Lincoln and immigration.
On Lincoln’s birthday on Feb. 12, he will give a lecture and participate in a book signing in Springfield, Illinois, at the Old State Capitol where Lincoln served four terms in the Illinois state legislature. Silverman is one of four historians invited to speak.
In March, Texas A&M International University will host Silverman to talk about the book, "Lincoln and the Immigrant," as part of its International Bank of Commerce Keynote Speaker Series. He will be the keynote speaker at 7 p.m. during the March 16 series event.
Series speakers normally come from the business or banking field. Organizers said the Texas A&M International University’s IBC Keynote Speaker Series is designed to present practical and targeted lectures imparted by distinguished leaders, recognized experts and outstanding scholars to enhance the academic experience of its students, faculty and the community.
“Dr. Jason H. Silverman’s book, ‘Lincoln and the Immigrant,’ provides a better understanding of immigration in a historical context as it relates to our sixteenth president. As immigration continues to be a divisive political issue, we hope that Dr. Silverman’s talk will provide our audience with new insights to consider as they continue to grapple with these issues today,” said Stephen Sears, dean of the A. R. Sanchez, Jr. School of Business at Texas A&M.
Their lectures are free and open to the public.
Later in the spring, Silverman will be the dinner speaker at the May 17 meeting of the Lincoln Group of DC. It was founded in 1935 and is one of the oldest and most prestigious Lincoln Associations in the country.
