ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — One of Winthrop University's Homecoming highlights was the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen during the men's basketball game on Nov. 12.
Seniors TyQuan Butler of Sumter, South Carolina, and Janay Reece of Charlotte, North Carolina, were voted Homecoming King and Queen by their fellow
students for Winthrop's 2016 Homecoming held Nov. 7-12. They accepted their crowns
from President Dan Mahony and First Lady Laura Mahony during halftime of the men's basketball game against
Ferrum College.
Butler is a social work major and a member of the Winthrop University Chorale and Chamber
singers. He also is a vice president and program and research chair of the Winthrop
Chapter of the NAACP, a member of Winthrop Visible, a Project Middle Ground Mentor
and a Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity of America member. He can sing in five languages.
Reece is a mass communication major and political science minor. She has served on the
Council of Student Leaders and worked as an Orientation Leader, Resident Assistant
and currently is The Johnsonian newspaper's managing editor.
