ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – In a celebration of Italian motoring, the Motori Italiani car and motorcycle show will return to the Winthrop University campus on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Owners of Italian cars and motorcycles can showcase their high-performance vehicles during the 17th Annual Motori Italiani on the Dinkins Hall lawn from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine.

Last year was the first time the university hosted the car show. Organizer Kevin Fielden said the move from last year’s site behind the Winthrop Coliseum to the Dinkins lawn will give the show more visibility. “We thought this would be a good option because it is much more visible to passers-by and will garner more foot traffic,” Fielden said of the space at 510 Myrtle Drive which fronts Oakland Avenue.

The university’s Family Day also will take place that day where students’ families return to Rock Hill to visit with their children.

Winthrop’s Gary Simrill ’91 noted that it will be an exciting event to add to an already bustling weekend on campus. “This is an incredible opportunity to see up close exotic cars and bikes that we often only see speeding by in action and adventure movies,” Simrill said. “Winthrop is excited to have spectators with Italian motoring passion on campus and experiencing the Rock Hill community.”

Owners of Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Maseratis, DeTomasos, Isos, Alfa Romeos, FIATs, Ducatis, Moto Guzzis, MV Agustas, Aprilias and other Italian vehicles will be on hand for the show competition and a chance to share their love of Italian vehicles’ design and engineering excellence.

The event is free to all visitors. For those wishing to participate, the entry is $30 per vehicle (any additional vehicles from the same person will be $25 for the second and $20 for the third). Please note that all participants must be pre-registered prior to the event. There will not be “drive-up” registrations on the day of the event.

The Oct. 5 show is sponsored by Euro Prestige Imports. Visitors will have the opportunity to vote for their favorites in a number of classes and awards will be presented to the winners.
