ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — James Smith, a Democratic candidate for governor, will
share his thoughts for the Palmetto state at a Tuesday, Jan. 30 campaign event at
Winthrop University.
Faculty, staff, students and the community are invited to the 7 p.m. event at the
Richardson Ballroom in the DiGiorgio Campus Center.
Smith represents District 52 for Richland County in the S.C. House of Representatives.
A Columbia attorney, he is a veteran of a year-long military deployment in Afghanistan
beginning in 2007.
The Jan. 30 event is sponsored by the College Democrats and is free and open to the public.
Winthrop is a public institution dedicated to serving the state of South Carolina
and to promoting the free exchange of ideas and informed citizenship. Thus, Winthrop
welcomes political candidates, elected officials, and guest speakers from all partisan
