ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Winthrop University's spring 2016 M.B.A. lecture will feature James H. Morgan, chairman of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Incorporated.
The lecture will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m. in Whitton Auditorium located
in Vivian M. Carroll Hall. A reception will be held before the lecture, from 6-6:45 p.m., in the Macfeat House adjacent to Carroll Hall.
Morgan currently serves as chairman of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. He previously
served as executive chairman from July 2014 until January 2015 and as president and
CEO from January 2008 until July 2014. Morgan has been a member of the Krispy Kreme
Board of Directors since 2000 and was elected its chairman in 2005.
Morgan previously served as chairman and CEO of Wachovia Securities following the
acquisition of Interstate/Johnson Lane, Inc. (IJL) by Wachovia Corporation. He had
previously served as chairman and CEO of Interstate/Johnson Lane, Inc. He was past
member of the Securities Industry Association Board of Directors and the New York
Stock Exchange (NYSE) regional firms committee, and is currently on the board of directors
of Coca-Coca Bottling Company Consolidated as well as the board of directors for Lowe's
Home Improvement.
Morgan has more than 40 years of business experience and is a 1969 graduate of Vanderbilt
University. Following his graduation from Vanderbilt, he served as a lieutenant in
the U.S. Navy.
He maintains a lifelong commitment to youth and education through his involvement
with numerous charitable organizations. As an active member of Providence Baptist
Church in Charlotte, he teaches a young couples class and has been a Sunday school
teacher for the past 40 years. He is a devoted family man, and he and his wife, Peggy,
reside in Cornelius, North Carolina. They have three children and four grandchildren.
The Feb. 23 event is free and open to the regional business community.
