ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) has issued a new five-year accreditation term to Winthrop University’s Macfeat Early Childhood Laboratory School.
Considered the premier association representing the education of young children, NAEYC’s accreditation process is based on a set of professional standards that helps ensure high-quality programs. These standards included providing a safe and healthy environment for children; employing well-trained teachers; providing access to excellent teaching materials; and working with a curriculum that’s appropriately challenging and developmentally sound for young children.
Under the leadership of Macfeat Director Erin Hamel, Macfeat teachers Liz Porter, Rosie Agosto and Chelsea Whitten received NAEYC's commendation for the high-quality learning experiences and care they provide their students.
“Achieving NAEYC accreditation is no easy task, and there are few preschool programs that hold this accreditation,” Hamel said. “I’m honored to work with such a dynamic, committed and brilliant team of teachers at Macfeat and am thrilled that NAEYC too recognizes their distinguished expertise. This school is an invaluable resource to our community and continues to impact the lives of so many children and families. Having NAEYC's seal of approval is more validation of Macfeat's excellence in early childhood education."
Macfeat’s transitional kindergarten/kindergarten classroom is now accepting applications for the 2020-21 school year. Online applications can be found at www.winthrop.edu/ceshs/macfeat.
