ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Rock Hill Mayor John Gettys will join other city leaders to speak at an April 18 town hall at Winthrop University on safety, police-community relations and economic development.
The 7 p.m. event, called “We Choose a Unified Community,” will be held in the Richardson Ballroom in the DiGiorgio Campus Center.
Edwina Roseboro-Barnes ‘08, director of human resources at Santee Cooper and former longtime human resources director at York Tech, will moderate. Also on the panel are: Chris Watts, Rock Hill police chief; Tadean Page ‘18, community development coordinator, Economic & Urban Development with the city of Rock Hill; Dawn Johnson, chair of the Black Economic Leadership League of Rock Hill; and Cameryn Mitchell ‘19, also with the city’s Economic & Urban Development office.
The event is hosted by Winthrop’s Department of Political Science, the John C. West Forum on Politics and Policy at Winthrop, and the Eta Omicron Lambda Chapter (Rock Hill) and the Xi Phi Chapter (Winthrop University) of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
“This collaboration between the John C. West Forum on Politics and Policy and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. is part of a long-term collaborative series of events focusing on community relations in Rock Hill,” said Professor Jennifer Leigh Disney, chair of the Department of Political Science. “We want to take seriously the theme of this year’s City of Rock Hill Community Relations Council Martin Luther King, Jr. Interfaith Prayer Breakfast and the title of Dr. King’s last book, ‘Where Do We Go From Here: Chaos or Community?,’ by hosting a panel discussion with key community leaders regarding prevalent issues and concerns facing the Rock Hill community.”
