ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Winthrop University will welcome new students and transfer
students during Orientation sessions in June, July and August.
Freshmen entering in the fall are required to attend one of five Orientation sessions. Family members are encouraged to take advantage of Family Orientation, a program offered concurrently with the first day of each of the student sessions.
Here are the schedules for students and families for the two-day Orientation sessions:
Session I is from June 13-14, Session II from June 18-19, Session III from June 21-22, Session IV from June 25-26 and Session V from Aug. 15-16. Transfer students entering Winthrop this fall may take advantage
of Transfer Orientation in July and August.
Orientation is a program designed to assist new students and their families in adjusting to life
as a Winthrop student. During Orientation, new students meet current student leaders,
faculty and staff, receive information on academic expectations, opportunities for
involvement, and what it means to be part of the Winthrop community and stay in the
residence halls.
In addition to registering for classes, the freshmen will receive a copy of the university's
common book for 2018-19, "Something Must Be Done About Prince Edward County" by Kristen Green.
Callie Smith, director for New Student and Family Programs (NSFP); Lori Harris, office manager;
and the student Orientation staff have designed programs and activities so students
will interact with upperclassmen, Orientation faculty mentors, key campus personnel
and each other to build a web of support for their Winthrop experience.
Students and families are highly encouraged to download the "Orientation at Winthrop" guide within the Winthrop University Guides app, available for iPhones and Androids. The
app has information about Winthrop, the NSFP office, Orientation students and staff,
and more. The Orientation schedules are currently available in more detail on the
app as well.
