ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - David Fahrenthold, the Washington Post reporter who won the Pulitzer Prize for his coverage of the Trump campaign in 2016, will speak at Winthrop University on Tuesday, Feb. 19, as part of the “News Literacy and the Future of Journalism” series.
Fahrenthold broke some of the most talked-about stories of the presidential campaign in 2016, including pieces on the Trump foundation and the “Access Hollywood” video. He now covers the Trump family and its business interests, and is a NBC News and MSNBC political analyst and CNN contributor.
The Feb. 19 event, “The State of the Fourth Estate: An Evening with David Fahrenthold,” will be at 7 p.m. at Dina’s Place in the DiGiorgio Campus Center on Winthrop’s campus.
Beryl Dakers, a longtime broadcast journalist at SC ETV and executive producer, newscaster, talk show host and documentary filmmaker, will moderate the discussion. The event is free and open to the public.
This event is part of the “News Literacy and the Future of Journalism” series, which is an eight-month collaborative effort by the S.C. Humanities, Winthrop and the S.C. Press Association. Additional support comes from the N.C. Humanities Council, The Newseum, The John C. West Forum on Politics and Policy, the Departments of Mass Communication and Political Science, and the College of Arts and Sciences at Winthrop.

The final two on-campus events in the series will be a panel on the future of journalism on March 26 and an April 2 discussion about the best ways for media to encourage empowerment through public discourse. Both of these events will be in the Richardson Ballroom in the DiGiorgio Center.
