ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — Winthrop University will be the site for an Oct. 3 candidate forum for those running for Rock Hill mayor and the Rock Hill City Council.

Voters will go to the polls on Oct. 17 to elect a new mayor and members for three council seats. Longtime Mayor Doug Echols is stepping away after 28 years of public service.

Three candidates have filed to run for mayor: Rock Hill Sports Commission chair John Gettys, York County Councilman William "Bump" Roddey and local landscape architect Duane Christopher.

Incumbent John Black is the lone candidate for Ward 4, while three candidates have registered for the Ward 5 seat. Incumbent Ann Williamson faces challengers Nikita Jackson and Brandon Smith. Also, Barrett Maners is running against incumbent Jim Reno in Ward 6.

The Oct. 3 forum will feature a 6:30 p.m. question and answer time for City Council candidates and a 7 p.m. question and answer time for mayoral candidates.

This will take place in the Richardson Ballroom in the DiGiorgio Campus Center.
 
The free event is open to the public and is sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Graduate Fraternity Inc., Eta Omicron Lambda Chapter, and the John C. West Forum on Politics & Policy.
