ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Winthrop University will welcome new students and transfer students during Orientation sessions in June and August.
Freshmen entering in the fall are required to attend one of three Orientation sessions. Family members are encouraged to take advantage of Family Orientation, a program offered concurrently with the first day of each of the student sessions.
Review the Orientation schedules for freshmen, transfers and families.
Freshman Orientation sessions are as follows: Session I is June 11-12, Session II is June 17-18 and Session III is June 20-21. For transfer students, there are virtual Orientation sessions on June 25 and on July 17, or an in-person Orientation option for Aug. 8.
Orientation is a program designed to assist new students and their families in adjusting to life as a Winthrop student. During Orientation, new students meet current student leaders, faculty and staff, receive information on academic expectations, opportunities for involvement, and what it means to be part of the Winthrop community and to live in the residence halls.
In addition to registering for classes and meeting with their academic departments, freshmen will receive a copy of the university’s common book for the third year in row, “The Girl Who Smiled Beads.”
Alicia Marstall, interim director of New Student and Family Programs; Miranda Knight, assistant dean of students; and the student Orientation staff have designed programs and activities so students will interact with upperclassmen, Orientation faculty mentors, key campus personnel and each other to build a web of support for their Winthrop experience.
