ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA - Winthrop University will host an Oct. 24 debate for the candidates in the Rock Hill mayor and City Council Ward 5 runoffs.
The candidates for mayor are Rock Hill Sports Commission Chair John Gettys and York County Councilman William “Bump” Roddey. In Ward 5, incumbent Ann Williamson faces challenger Nikita Jackson.
The Oct. 24 event, moderated by Political Science Professor Karen Kedrowski, will be held at 7 p.m. in the Richardson Ballroom in the DiGiorgio Campus Center.
None of the candidates in the two races had more than half the votes in the Oct. 17 election. Voters will return to the polls on Oct. 31 to pick between the two candidates with the highest totals. The election also will bring an end to the tenure of longtime Mayor Doug Echols ‘77, who is stepping down after 28 years of public service.
The event will be carried live on WRHI radio and will last for an hour and a half.
It is free, open to the public and sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha Graduate Fraternity Inc., Eta Omicron Lambda Chapter, and the John C. West Forum on Politics and Policy.
