ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA — Praised for its diverse student body and beautiful campus,
Winthrop University is considered among the "Best in the Southeast" by the Princeton Review.
Winthrop is one of 143 schools that the company recommends online at "2019 Best Colleges: Region by Region," a feature posted on its website.
Other notable mentions in Winthrop's profile were the university's cultural event
requirement, Division I sports teams, professors' availability and the Lois Rhame West Health, Physical Education and Wellness Center.
Winthrop President Dan Mahony said he is pleased that the Princeton Review has noted the diversity and value of
the Winthrop experience.
"It's gratifying to see the Princeton Review continuing to recognize the variety of
attributes that make Winthrop a truly special place to earn a college degree. The
university has built a well-earned reputation for a student-focused education that
equips our graduates to succeed in their chosen fields and as informed citizens,"
said Mahony.
The Princeton Review compiles its list based on institutional data collected directly
from the colleges, visits to schools, input from college counselors and the opinions
of the Princeton Review's staff. Students rated their own schools and answered questions
about themselves, their peers and campus life. Schools selected by the publication
as "Best Colleges" are considered "academically outstanding and well worth consideration."
The schools in the "2019 Best Colleges: Region by Region" list also are rated in six categories - academics, admissions selectivity, financial
aid, fire safety, quality of life and green adaptability. Criteria for each rating
is available here.
The colleges and universities chosen for the "Best in the Southeast" list are located
in 12 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi,
North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
