INDIANAPOLIS, INDIANA — Steven Patrick, a former Winthrop University men's tennis player and 2016 graduate, has been awarded
one of 29 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships that were awarded to men's student-athletes this spring.
Patrick, a native of Knoxville, Tennessee, will use the $7,500 award to attend medical
school at Western University of Health Sciences of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific
in Pomona, California. He was a recipient last year of one of two Bob McCloskey Insurance Big South Conference Graduate Fellowships.
The NCAA awards up to 174 postgraduate scholarships each year to student-athletes
who excel academically and athletically.
Two other former Winthrop student-athletes have also received the NCAA Postgraduate
Scholarship. Former softball standout Lisa Kingsmore earned the honor in 2009, while former baseball player Jeff Reeves earned the award in 2003.
