ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Winthrop University students, faculty and staff have the opportunity to participate in a community service event in remembrance of the events on Sept. 11, 2001.
According to 911day.org, “9/11 Day has transformed September 11 into the largest day of service in America, officially recognized under federal law.”
More than 30 million Americans and others have participated in service dedicating time each 9/11 to helping others in need and rekindling the spirit of unity that brought Americans together in the days following the 9/11 tragedy.”
Chris Johnson ’93, Winthrop’s sustainability coordinator, is organizing the Winthrop service event, which will involve litter clean-up on and around Winthrop’s campus. “We want to show the community that we are unified in our efforts to make Rock Hill and Winthrop University welcoming,” said Johnson.
