ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Robin Cronin, a Winthrop University student with a passion for children and teaching, passed away at 21 years old on July 5.
Cronin, of Clover, was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in early childhood education, having transferred to Winthrop from York Technical College.
Faculty in the Richard W. Riley College of Education, Sport, and Human Sciences who worked with Cronin all commented on her passion for working in the education field.
Liz Moore, Cronin’s advisor in the college, shared, “Robin was a student who from day one stood out, goal-driven and always asking about opportunities to be a better student and future educator. Her initiative and witty sense of humor set her apart from other students.”
“Robin’s love for children and early childhood education was evident from the moment she stepped on Winthrop’s campus,” said Crystal Glover, program director of the early childhood education program and associate professor. “One of the first things she did was purchase an early childhood education T-shirt, which she proudly wore as a public symbol of her dedication to her future work with young children. Robin was a bright, eager star who often spoke fondly of her pets and was deeply committed to meeting her future goals.”
“Robin was lovely. She was a thoughtful, hardworking student who was clearly committed to teaching children,” said Kimberly Oxley, instructor and educational studies program director. “She asked insightful questions, communicated regularly, and submitted such quality work. I was able to observe her perseverance and integrity while I supported her field work in an elementary school this past spring.”
Outside of Winthrop, Cronin loved all things related to Harry Potter, the Supernatural TV series and Percy Jackson. She also adored her pets: a pug, Edgar; and cat, Sadie.
The memorial service will take place on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, S.C. For full details and to leave condolences for the family, see the obituary.
