ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – The traditional Family Day will stretch out to Family Week this year from Oct. 5-10, and it will be fully virtual.
Due to COVID-19, the university won’t be able to hold the traditional weekend activities
so instead, the Office of New Student & Family Programs and the Family Day committee will hold Virtual Family Week 2020. The week will feature a mix of live virtual events (all listed in Eastern Standard
Time) and videos/events for families to view on their own time.
Callie Smith ’13, director of the Office of New Student & Family Programs, said the virtual experience
will still give families the opportunity to engage with the Winthrop community and
learn more about the campus. “While we are not inviting our wonderful Eagle families
to campus this year, we are excited to continue the tradition of celebrating them
through the spirit of this event!”
So what’s happening that week?
Here are some of the highlights:
- Send in your best Mac-N-Cheese recipe. Students and families can submit their family’s favorite combination and the three
best will be served at Thomson Café and voted on by students, faculty and staff.
- Show us your best family photo! E-mail Orientation@winthrop.edu your family photo to be posted on the Winthrop University Family Programs Facebook
page, and the family with the most “likes” by Friday, Oct. 9 at noon will win a prize
package!

- Hear academic presentations from the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Visual
and Performing Arts, and University College, in addition to the Winthrop Think College.
