ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Lily Meisten, a Winthrop University junior, was recently awarded a $1,000 study abroad scholarship by the interdisciplinary honor society Phi Kappa Phi.
The Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad grant is designed to help support undergraduates as they seek knowledge and experience in their academic fields by studying abroad. Each year 125 grants are awarded.
The Greenville, South Carolina, resident is majoring in biology with dual minors in Spanish and business administration. As a student enrolled in LEAD 350, a Global Leadership course at Winthrop, she will be part of an immersive experience May 13-23 to go to Europe and visit France, particularly the French Riviera and Nice, Monaco and the Italian cities of Venice and Florence.
In addition to her studies, Meisten is deeply involved in campus life. A member of the soccer team, she was recently appointed team captain. She has served as a soccer referee with the Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Department and was a volunteer assistant with the Charlotte FC’s first women’s development clinic.
Beyond athletics, she holds two leadership positions within Zeta Tau Alpha and is an active member of the National Society for Collegiate Athletes. As a high achieving student, she served as an assistant chief student marshal in at May 2023 Commencement ceremonies. Meisten was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi at Winthrop in March.
“I'm incredibly excited for this upcoming journey, as it presents a unique opportunity to immerse myself in different cultures, broaden my horizons, and deepen my understanding of global leadership,” Meisten said. “I'm eager to embrace the challenges and discoveries that lie ahead and look forward to sharing these experiences with my fellow classmates.”
