Groves began his Winthrop career in 1998.
ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Randolph “Randy” Groves, the supervisor of Winthrop University’s plumbing department and a 25-year member of the facilities management staff, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Piedmont Medical Center.
In an e-mail to the campus community, James Grigg, associate vice president for facilities management, said that Groves “was proud of his work supporting students, faculty, and staff at Winthrop. Randy was only 60 years old and unfortunately suffered complications from an ongoing illness. His commitment to Winthrop and his love for the USC Gamecocks will be remembered. Randy will be greatly missed by the facilities management team.”
Groves enjoyed spending time with his family at the beach and watching USC football. Family members described him as an incredible son, husband, father, Pepaw and friend.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, Ebenezer Road in Rock Hill. Visitation will be held beforehand starting at 2 p.m.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters; three grandchildren; his mother and sister.
