ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Winthrop University will kick off a week-long schedule of Homecoming activities Nov. 7-12, which will include a mix of virtual and in-person offerings.
Lori Tuttle, executive director of alumni relations and reunion giving, said she is delighted to welcome alumni back to campus. “Our Homecoming Committee has worked hard to provide lots of opportunities for alumni and students to connect with the campus community,” Tuttle said. “We want everyone to join together to celebrate what makes Winthrop special. We are excited to welcome our alumni home and we are excited about the slate of events that has something for everyone.”
Virtual events will include the Winthrop Spirit Check, a Facebook Live session on the “Just One More…Celebrating the Life and Work of Joel Nichols” exhibit and Tipsy Tuesday with The Tipsy Doc.
Meanwhile, students will have a special Homecoming kickoff event on Monday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m. in Tillman Auditorium that will feature special performances from Elite Dynasty, the Spirt Squad and Iyla. There will be a special Homecoming meal on Tuesday, Nov. 8 at 5 p.m. in Eagle Eatery that will feature a burger challenge, a Clash of the Classes event on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 8 p.m. in the West Center and a trip to Regal Manchester Cinema on Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. for a screening of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
Alumni arriving in Rock Hill on Friday, Nov. 11, can drop by and visit the Winthrop Archives to view the exhibit “Just One More…Celebrating the Life and Work of Joel Nichols,” the university’s long-time university photographer, take a campus tour or West Center tour and then head to Slow Play Brewing for Homecoming Happy Hour. Slow Play Brewing is owned by three Winthrop alumni, Ben Lee ’05, Matt Poston ’11 and Ron Fasick ’02.
Saturday, Nov. 12, events include a 10 a.m. Alumni Reunion Brunch, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. tailgating at the Winthrop Coliseum, 12:30 p.m. West Center tours, 2 p.m. Alumni Choir Homecoming Concert and the 4 p.m. men's basketball game against Middle Tennessee State University.
Sunday, Nov. 13, will feature the women’s basketball game versus Coppin State at 2 p.m. at the Winthrop Coliseum.
