ROCK HILL, SOUTH CAROLINA – Winthrop University will welcome alumni back home during its annual Homecoming and Reunion week, which is slated for Nov. 4-9.
Lori Tuttle, executive director of alumni relations and reunion giving, said alumni will have the opportunity to visit the new Morgan-Holcombe Alumni center at the Stewart House during an open house on Friday, Nov. 8, from 10-11 a.m.
“At last year’s Homecoming, we were just settling into the Stewart House. Visitors saw the space in its infancy phase of design. But this year, we welcome alumni to come check out the beautiful pieces of Winthrop history and historical moments that have been thoughtfully selected and displayed throughout the house. Then I hope our alumni will plan to enjoy a weekend full of fun and educational activities and events. Our Homecoming Committee has worked hard to provide lots of opportunities for alumni and students to connect with the campus community,” Tuttle said.
There will be a Homecoming kick-off men’s basketball game versus the Piedmont Lions on Monday, Nov. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the Winthrop Coliseum. The Homecoming Royalty Court will be announced at halftime.
There will be a special Homecoming 90s-themed meal on Tuesday, Nov. 5, beginning at 5 p.m. in Eagle Eatery that will feature a chocolate pie eating challenge, a live DJ, giveaways and prizes.
A Homecoming Talent Show on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 8 p.m. in Barnes Recital Hall will let students show off their talents and skills.
Alumni arriving in Rock Hill on Friday, Nov. 8, can take a campus art tour by meeting at 3 p.m. on the front steps of Rutledge Building, or they can head to Dina’s Place for the College of Arts and Sciences’ emeritus professor lectures.
Other campus walking tours start at 3, 3:15 and 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, at Joynes Hall. A student ambassador will lead the 45-minute tour.
All alumni are invited to gather Friday for a Homecoming Happy Hour at Slow Play Brewing from 6-11 p.m. The brewery located behind the Winthrop campus is owned by three Winthrop alumni, Ben Lee ’05, Matt Poston ’11 and Ron Fasick ’02.
Another option is for those milestone reunion classes whose class year ends with a 4 or 9 to head to the Morgan-Holcombe Alumni Center at the Stewart House at 6 p.m. for a welcome reception. The 50-year Reunion Class will be honored with a special dinner in the Richardson Ballroom. Both events required advance registration.
