As we all transition to summer hours, I want to make you aware of an option for weeklong casual dress, or what I am personally going to observe as Garnet & Gold Summer, that will be in effect through Aug. 4, 2023.
This approach is basically the option of Monday-Friday wearing casual shirts and shoes, jeans and other casual pants (including work-appropriate shorts and capris), summer dresses/skirts, etc. Winthrop T-shirts and other gear is acceptable and encouraged. You can find apparel in the Winthrop Bookstore or online at shopwinthropeagles.com and shopwinthropgear.merchorders.com.
The bookstore is offering a fantastic deal in support of this option: an additional 10% discount to all faculty and staff members on all garnet and gold clothing items. This special 20% discount will be available for everyone who presents their F/S ID at check-out from Monday, May 22, until Friday, June 2. The bookstore is open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
I believe this option is as much about spirit and morale as it is about comfort during our hottest time of year. If you prefer to continue with your normal attire, that is perfectly fine. Of course, everyone should consider their meeting schedules and when business casual or professional attire would be more appropriate.
I know this is a shift, and I believe it will be a welcome one, so please use good judgment as we pilot this more relaxed approach for the summer. Hopefully all will go well, and we can observe this option in future summers.
If you have questions about whether attire is appropriate, check with your supervisor or vice president, and let their response be your guide.
Now, let me go find my jean shorts….just kidding. Lauren wouldn’t allow that!
