WHEREAS, the proposed Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice is designed to prepare students for careers within and related to the criminal justice system, differing from the current Criminology program by incorporating more specified course requirements and an internship/practicum;
WHEREAS, the program will offer two concentrations: General and Cyber and Corporate Crime, catering to students seeking employment in traditional criminal justice roles or in sectors combating cyber and corporate crimes;
WHEREAS, the Cyber and Corporate Crime concentration represents a unique offering that distinguishes this degree from other programs in South Carolina, addressing a significant and growing societal concern;
WHEREAS, the establishment of the B.A. in Criminal Justice will enhance Winthrop University’s curriculum and provide new career pathways for students interested in criminal justice fields;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that on March 13, 2024, the Winthrop University Board of Trustees hereby establishes the Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice with concentrations in General and Cyber and Corporate Crime.
FURTHER RESOLVED, the Secretary to the Board of Trustees shall certify that the Winthrop University Board of Trustees approved this resolution on the 13th Day of March 2024, in a regularly called meeting. Such resolution shall be maintained and publicly posted by the Secretary of the Board in a time and manner as required by law.
